Of course you can charge things you can’t pay for right now but that isn’t the only benefit you will get from it. You just never know what will come your way so you have to be prepared. You don’t want to have to shut down business for a few days until someone pays you. Instead you can use that credit card to keep you going until the money is there.

Credit cards are very important for every small business to have. This doesn’t mean you use your personal credit card to buy what you need for the business. It means that you have at least one that is in the business name only. This is the perfect way to start establishing a solid credit history for your business.

That allows lenders to take you and your business seriously. It shows responsibility for your business as well. It also shows that you are serious about making it successful and keeping it going for a long time into the future. Too many small businesses just don’t stay open and that can worry both lenders and customers so you want to give them confidence your will make it.

A credit card for your small business gives you a way to buy essential items you may need but not have the money for. You may need to invest in various types of equipment or materials so you can generate more sales. You don’t want your production to be halt due to a problem coming up and you have no way to financially resolve it. Having a business credit card to use quickly and get back into action can be vital to the survival of a small business.

Having a business credit card doesn’t mean you can just go buy everything you want though. Be very conscious about what you need right now and what you can do without. Strive to keep your overhead expenses very low. As your business brings in profits you can allocate some of those funds to buy things you want but don’t really need to use in your business.

With a business credit card, you can get out from under the problem of relying on your personal credit to help the business. You don’t want to risk losing your home or other assets should your business fail. Even the best plans for a successful business can turn out differently then you planned. You can always move on to another business or work for someone else. However, you don’t want to ruin your personal credit in the mean time.

Don’t just apply for the first business credit card you come across though. Find out what the eligibility criteria is for it. Find out what the rates are, fees, penalties for late payments, and incentives for being responsible with the credit you are extended. You want to find the right deal for type of business needs.

Every small business needs a credit card that is attached to it. The wise business owner understands this and is prepared for anything that can happen. You may have all the key elements necessary for a successful business but when you get into a financial crunch it may be impossible to keep it going.
